Tablas Creek Patelin de Tablas Rouge - 2021 (750ml)

Tablas Creek Patelin de Tablas Rouge - 2021 (750ml)

The Tablas Creek Vineyard Patelin de Tablas is a Paso Robles take on a classic Rhône blend: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Counoise. The wine incorporates fruit from several of the top Rhône vineyards in Paso Robles, each vineyard selected for its quality. Like many red wines from the Rhône Valley, it is based on the dark fruit, mineral and spice of Syrah. To that Syrah, we incorporate the brightness and fresh acidity of Grenache, the structure and meatiness of Mourvèdre, and a small addition of Counoise for complexity.

  • 92 points; "What a light-handed Paso red can do": Decanter (Nov. 2023)

  • 92 points; "Silky-smooth yet full of energy, this engulfs the palate": Vinous (May 2023)

  • 92 points; "the palate dances with texture, its juicy black raspberry and cherry flavours pure, vibrant and long": Decanter (May 2023)

  • 91 points; "raspberry and cranberry flavors that take on smoky meat, grilled anise and red pepper accents": Wine Spectator (Apr. 2023)

  • 93 points; "chalky and fresh with a concentrated core of crunchy fruit and a long, floral finish": Robert Parker Wine Advocate (Dec. 2022)

  • 94 points & Editor's Choice; "easy-to-enjoy yet complex ... delicious and thought-provoking": Wine Enthusiast (Nov. 2022)

  • 91 points; "Pristine, fruit-expressive finish": James Suckling (Oct. 2022)

  • 93 points; "a black fruit-driven core with flavors of black cherry, black currant, dark chocolate, and graphite ... perfectly balanced with a chewy texture": BevX (Sep. 2022)

  • Outstanding Plus; "Very elegant and flavorful with floral spice tinged black fruit flavors": Underground Wine Letter (Sep. 2022)

Tasting Notes

A nose of licorice, both red and black, new leather, black cherry, pomegranate reduction, and black pepper. The mouth is bright with cranberry fruit and a chaparral-style wild herbiness, and deeper flavors of baking spices, sweet tobacco, and plum skin. The finish is deep and long, with chalky tannins that suggest there's more to be revealed with time in bottle. Drink now and over the next decade.
