Sine Qua Non Eleven Confessions Estate Grenache - 2021 (750ml)

Sine Qua Non Eleven Confessions Estate Grenache - 2021 (750ml)

98 points Vinous

The 2021 Grenache Eleven Confessions Vineyard is a showstopper, a stunning wine of unimpeachable pedigree and finesse. For all its intensity, it remains cool-toned and remarkably graceful, with layers of red fruit, spice and lavender unfurling in a finish that fans out like a peacock's tail. Iron-tinged minerality lends striking complexity and underlines the wine's stature. The cool growing season endowed this Grenache with a sense of weightlessness and transparency. The 2021 is remarkably fresh and joyful after 38 months in barrel. The blend is 86.1% Grenache, 8.5% Syrah, 4.4% Petite Sirah and 1% Viognier, with 55% whole clusters. - By Billy Norris on August 2025

Tasting with Elaine and Manfred Krankl is an enlightening, joyful experience. Despite their lauded status and seemingly endless array of successes, the Krankls are as passionate as ever, not to mention completely warm and disarming. My initial thought in tasting this supremely impressive array of wines from Sine Qua Non, Next of Kyn and The Third Twin was that these wines defy categorization, and moreover that they defy what many who haven’t actually tasted the wines think they’re like. Do not get me wrong, these are big, bold wines that run fruit richness and textural opulence through a 100-watt Marshall stack and dial it up to 11, BUT these wines are not monoliths. They are beautifully elegant, deeply complex, completely polished and absolutely intentional—all characteristics that cement them as among the most singular wines in the world.
