This is the second version of Wings, a carmenere from the Apalta hillsides, in the heart of the Colchagua Valley. Those hills give rise to fresh, light carmeneres that don’t completely fit the mold of the top carmenere, Purple Angel, which Montes makes from its other hillside vineyards there. In 2019, however, they decided to bottle that vineyard separately. In this second version, from a warm year like 2020, this wine displays tones of sweet spices and ripe black fruit. The texture is friendly, juicy, ripe, and succulent.

Grapes come from vines that grow on the hillside of Apalta. This is a Carménère with a ripe character and lovely acidity. Aromas of berry jam join cinnamon, nutmeg and peppercorn on the nose. The palate is silky and fruity, with nice notes of cranberry sauce and red plum. Sweet spices add an extra layer of flavor. — Jesica Vargas
