Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Orveuax - 1996 (750ml)

Toasty oak lends clove, nutmeg and bacon aromas to the rich cherry flavors in this velvety Pinot. Nice tension between the bright acidity and ripe tannins. Cherry notes prevail on the finish.

Vosne's answer to Nuits, this wine is medium-to-dark ruby-colored and possesses a blackberry, smoke, and toasty oak-laden nose. This foursquare, austere, and tannic wine is full-bodied, backward, chewy-textured, and densely-packed with metallic, minerally, briary, gamey, and cassis-like flavors. Additionally, this wine has a long, firm, and tannin-strewn, slightly rustic finish.
