Firm and austere, or are those terms just polite ways of saying classic? Much better results are found here on the nose, with its floral, tobacco, earthy, red berry characteristics. Bright, crisp red fruits and green herbs are sensed in the finish. More time will probably not add much here. A few hours of air did help a bit. On the other hand, if you really love those older, classic vintages from years gone by, this wine should be in your wheelhouse.
