Krug Blanc de Blancs Clos du Mesnil- 2008 (750ml)

98+ Points, Wine Advocate- Once again, the 2008 Blanc de Blancs Clos du Mesnil is performing well today. Offering up a complex, dense and delicately spicy bouquet of citrus oil, hazelnuts, marzipan, pastry, ripe apricot and confit citrus, it's full-bodied, perfectly balanced and layered, with a crystalline, chiseled texture framed by racy acids, leading to a long, mineral and lovely iodine-inflected finish. Despite its austerity and structure, this Chardonnay, entirely sourced from Mesnil-sur-Oger, possesses a charming character that promises to age gracefully for 20-30 years.

When I met Julie Cavil, Krug’s Chef de Caves, in July, the extensive construction at Joseph—the name the house has given to the new winery in the heart of Ambonnay—was nearing completion. During the visit, I had the opportunity to taste the latest rendition of the cuvée, the 172ème Edition, based on the 2016 vintage, alongside some of the oldest cuvées and the newly released Clos d’Ambonnay from the 2008 vintage.
