Iseya Distillery Scarlet Menta Amaro (700ml)
Distilller's Notes:
Iseya Shuzo is a Japanese distillery dedicated to crafting Amaro, the traditional Italian herbal liqueur known for its distinctive bitterness. Located in Midori Ward, Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, the distillery operates out of a restored 100-year-old kominka (traditional farmhouse) in Obara—once the ninth post town along the historic Koshu Highway.
After working in bars and restaurants across Japan, the founder of Iseya Shuzo set out on a journey through Europe—visiting around 70 distilleries, including those in Scotland. There, they encountered the depth and dedication of craft distillers, as well as the profound connection between the land, its people, and the spirits it produces.
Amaro has always been a global liqueur—its character shaped by herbs and roots gathered from across the world. To create a true Amaro, Iseya Shuzo believes it’s essential to embrace both the local and the international, honoring its heritage while crafting something uniquely their own.
After the rainy season has ended, mint is harvested in the neighboring field to the Iseya Distillery to create this new take on a classic elixir. Scarlet Menta Amaro's most recent batch used about 150kg of various mint for a bottle run of about 2000. The mint is combined with anis hyssop, lavender, wormwood, and Japanese honeysuckle to create a liqueur whose bitterness is matched with its refreshing botanicals. Gentle and complex, Scarlet Menta Amaro is recommended served chilled, on the rocks, with a peel of grapefruit. Just the thing for a warm summer's night.
MORE THAN 30 HERBS INCLUDING: APPLE MINT, PEPPERMINT, BLACK PEPPERMINT, SPEARMINT, YERBA BUENA, FENNEL, WORMWOOD, JAPANESE HONEYSUCKLE, AND CORNFLOWER.
